Safiya Yakubu Salihu

I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. I hold a bachelor of technology in estate management and valuation from Federal University of Technology Minna.
At the core of my ambition is a desire for a world free of disparities, especially in marginalized contexts. This is why I have decided to be a champion for SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. This journey began from my leadership experience, training, and certification by United People Global (UPG), where I metamorphosed into a sustainable leader equipped to catalyze change.
I am also a youth adviser, being a member of UNICEF Generation Unlimited’s global youth advisory board, better called the Girls’ Advisory Panel (GAP) for the initiative Girls’ Education and Skills Partnership (GESP). Through this, I’m able to contribute my voice to better shape impactful solutions for young women’s education and empowerment schemes.
Prior to this profound experience, I served a two-year term as a representative of the Young People’s Action Team (YPAT) under Generation Unlimited. This was a rich experience, as it was all about impacting youths within my community and beyond through advocacy, sensitization, and other forms of engagement.
I have volunteered (and still volunteering in some cases) with other nongovernmental nonprofit organizations in the past, which include Connected Hands for Family Health and
Empowerment Initiative (CHAFHEIN), Think Green Foundation, and others. My tenure at Think Green Foundation is an epic leap into learning and engaging in sustainable environmental practices like recycling, tree planting, and waste disposal to curb climate-related issues within our ecosystems.
In addition, I’m a writer and editor with several years of experience. I’ve also been privileged to be part of a few research groups over the years, even though as a supporting member. My research interests are at the nexus of SDG 10—inequalities in various areas such as education, health, socioeconomy, climate change, etc., which further integrates many other components of the SDGs. I believe that as change catalysts, it is pivotal that we attempt to
reduce the wide gaps lying within all areas of human existence.
