Tekalign Abdisa

Mr. Tekalign Abdisa has been a lecturer of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing at Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine since 2018. He earned his BSc in Geographic Information Systems from Hawassa University and his MSc in GIS and Remote Sensing from Jimma University. With 7 years of experience in the field, he applies geospatial techniques to tackle environmental and climate challenges such as analyzing the impacts of land use and land cover (LULC) changes on soil erosion, mapping landscape ecology for sustainable soil management, land suitability analysis using GIS and remote sensing , and assessing agricultural and hydrological drought through satellite imagery. He participated in the research conducted on customary land tenure and communal resource use in Gambella, Southern National, Nationality, and Peoples rule, challenges, and practices, funded by IOM via Jimma University. Beyond academia, he is passionate about strengthening geospatial capacity, empowering various organizations through hands-on GIS and remote sensing training.
